Carl Vernon Letner, Sr., age 79, of Pulaski, passed on peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at his residence. Known for his larger-than-life sense of humor and personality, Carl leaves behind so many warm and amusing memories for his family and friends. Born on October 19, 1944 in Grimsley, TN, he was the seventh child of Harvey Joseph Letner and Nellie Louise Boruff Letner. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jewelline (Jewel) Ridenour Letner, his son, Carl Vernon Letner, Jr. (and his girlfriend, Jackie Bryant), daughter, Deborah Jean Letner, grandchildren, Bradley Carl Fisher, Stephanie Allison Dolan, and Catherine Louise Letner (and her husband, Joshua Keith Branscome), and great grandson, Gabriel Raziel Snook.
A devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, Carl spent his lifetime working in various capacities to support his family. From the role of a computer technician to a regional shoe store manager/co-owner to an owner-operator truck driver, he made sure he provided for his family, sometimes to the detriment of his own health and happiness. He was a truck driver for North American Van Lines (both in the Household and Cars divisions) for a total of 22 years before retiring. During his time with North American Van Lines, Carl (along with Jewel when she was on the road with him) was awarded the prestigious title of Vanguard Driver (top grossing drivers with the best delivery records of the fleet) for 13 years.
As a giving and caring person, Carl helped many people, including while he was on the road as a trucker. From those with broken down vehicles to broken down individuals in need. He and his wife, Jewel, were also both members of the Montgomery County Citizen's Action Team, whose activities included collecting donations for those less fortunate around Christmastime and distributing those gifts on Christmas Eve. As a hobbyist, Carl was a trader amongst his friends (cars, trucks, trailers, mowers, et cetera). He also loved tinkering in the garage, model-building, and other personal activities included building a 2-car garage, a treehouse, and many sheds.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home. There will be no formal service to follow the visiting times.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.seaglefuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Seagle Funeral Home, Pulaski. 540-980-1700
